Plant Engineer

Plant Engineer - Control and apply engineering policies in textile manufacturing facilities to improve processes and operational execution, reduce loss and delays, promote cost efficiency, and ensure that company standards and methods are implemented. Duties include reducing cost and improving efficiency of staff and operations by analyzing current plant operations, project specifications, and project plans to assess areas of inefficiency; developing and implementing appropriate changes; using statistical process control techniques and software including Byte to analyze staff/operator efficiencies and productivity, balance lines, analyze trends to determine cost savings opportunities, ensure efficient use of materials in the production process, and analyze time study for payroll and capacities; developing and implementing systems and procedures to meet established company objectives relating to volume, cost, and quality; ensuring proper training to all plant staff; developing process capability studies to determine if company manufacturing processes can meet customer/contract requirements; providing manufacturing information to support company bids, including costs of labor and production for new contracts; developing solutions for reducing seconds and repairs; identifying and resolving pattern and sewing issues; developing and recommending a set of indicators for measuring the quality performance of plant operations; implementing and maintaining Advanced Analytical Methods of Training (AAMT) program; and providing assistance to Plant Managers to improve operational efficiency.

Position requires: (1) Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, systems engineering, or a closely related field. Employer will accept foreign equivalent education. (2) 24 months of work experience in an industrial engineer or process engineer position in the textile and/or apparel manufacturing arena, to include using statistical process control techniques and Byte software to analyze operational data and make recommendations for improved efficiency in the areas of staff productivity, line balancing, determining cost savings opportunities, and use of materials in the production process; and working with project specifications and project planning. (3) Bilingual in English and Spanish to translate facility and project information and documentation as needed to effectively perform the duties of the position. English and Spanish are the official languages of Puerto Rico, with Spanish being the dominant language, so relevant information and documentation regarding company and project plans and specifications, as well as operational data, may be in either language. In addition, some staff do not speak fluent English and communication must be conducted primarily in Spanish. (4) Moderate noise in the facility due to sewing machines, fabric cutting equipment, forklifts, and other equipment. (5) Position requires a significant amount of standing, walking, and sitting.
